Dear Sun Spots: The Abused Women’s Advocacy Project is asking for our community’s support during the Christmas season. Our need this year is greater than ever before. This year we have all dealt with the massive job layoffs and scarce housing within our community. It is very hard for women and their families to start over. Sometimes we have families come to us with just the clothes on their backs. When families that we service come face to face with a holiday like Christmas, it is a very somber occasion unless we have somebody to help us make a difference. Every family that is adopted will deeply treasure the memory that you helped make their Christmas complete. Memories like those are priceless. Abused Women’s Advocacy Project serves Androscoggin, Oxford and Franklin counties.
You can really make a difference by adopting a family or by making a donation of any kind. If you would like to be part of Adopt-A-Family you can contact: Terry G. at (207) 795-6744 extension 23 or Barbara R. at (207) 795-6744 extension 12. With great appreciation. – Terry G., Auburn.
Dear Sun Spots: Can you please find the words to a song about “This Old House”? I really want the words to this, if possible, please. – Dorothy, Farmington.
Answer: Sun Spots hopes you enjoy the song by Stuart Hamblen that was one of the late Rosemary Clooney’s big hits:
This old house once knew its children
This old house once knew its wife
This old house was home and comfort
As they fought the storms of life
This old house once rang with laughter
This old house heard many shouts
Now it trembles in the darkness
When the lightning walks about
Ain’t gonna need this house no longer
Ain’t gonna need this house no more
Ain’t got time to fix the shingles
Ain’t got time to fix the floor
Ain’t got time to oil the hinges
Nor to mend the window pane
Ain’t gonna need this house no longer
He’s getting ready to meet the saints
This old house is gettin’ shaky
This old house is gettin’ old
This old house has seen the rain
This old house has seen the cold
Oh his knees are gettin’ chilly
But he feels no fear or pain
‘Cause he sees an angel peepin’
Through a broken window pane
Ain’t gonna need this house no longer
Ain’t gonna need this house no more
Ain’t got time to fix the shingles
Ain’t got time to fix the floor
Ain’t got time to oil the hinges
Nor to mend the window pane
Ain’t gonna need this house no longer
He’s getting ready to meet the saints (repeat)
