I attended the Dec. 14 state rail plan meeting in Lewiston. The Sun Journal reporter rightly caught the angry tone.

Two important points: First, the organizers of the meeting offered to meet with anyone there to discuss why the state has moved so far on extending Amtrak to Brunswick, and not much at all on extending service to Lewiston. Members of the public who are concerned about the issue should follow up on that invitation.

Second, the organizers failed to note that the state has spent, I believe, $60 million to upgrade the line between Brunswick and Rockland for passenger rail. That ‘sunk cost’ is a huge part of the momentum to get Amtrak to Brunswick.
