George H. Breau
1932 – 2009
BOISE, Idaho — George Henry Breau, 77, formerly of Rumford “Smithcrossing,” passed away on Dec. 31, at Sun Health Hospital after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He had spent the last six years at the Ashley Manor in Mountain Home, Idaho, where he was near his devoted daughter and grandchildren.
He was born Dec. 9, 1932, in Rumford, the son of the late Henry “Pete” Breau and Leonille “Winnie” (Boucher) Breau.
Prior to his retirement, he spent his summers in Maine as a road construction supervisor for various construction companies, and his winters in Florida as a yacht captain.
In the 1960s, he worked in the Rangeley and Oquossoc area, and managed the Greene Farm in Stratton. While working in that area, he and his crew transplanted Lupines throughout Rangeley and Oquossoc. In 1973, he ran a riding stable in New York, where he rode and trained horses. In 1980, he took part in the Cuban Mariel Boatlift – transporting a boat load of Cuban Refugees to the United States.
Prior to his illness, he took an active interest in politics and enjoyed lively political discussions. He strongly believed one person could make a difference.
He was very proud of his Acadian heritage, and enjoyed researching both his parent’s family history.
Among his hobbies – cooking, singing country music, playing the guitar, boating, snowmobiling, snowshoeing and hiking on his property in Byron, with his beloved dogs.
He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Bobzien and her husband, Senior Master Sgt. Christian Bobzien, of Mountain Home, Idaho; grandchildren, Coby and Jordan Bobzien; long-time companion, Janine Marston of Byron; two sisters, Dorothy Vaughn and husband, Mac Vaughn, of Worthley Pond, Peru and Jeanine Johnston of Stuart, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews and their families. Services to be held in Maine at a later date.
