Joseph ‘Joe’ E. Stefani
1924 – 2010
CANTON — Joseph “Joe” E. Stefani, 85, of Dixfield, died early Monday, Jan. 4, at the Victorian Villa Nursing Home.
He was born July 26, 1924, in Burbank, S.D., a son of James and Betsey (Smith) Stefani. He worked as a self-employed woodsman and later worked at Oxford Paper/Boise Cascade in Rumford for 28 years. In 1981, he married Charlene M. York in Dixfield.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing and going to his camp at Nicatous Lake. He and his wife wintered in Bullhead City, Ariz., for 16 years and they enjoyed traveling to casino’s, playing bingo, and dancing. Joe loved his family and extended family and will be missed by all.
He is survived by his wife, Charlene of Dixfield; two daughters, Darlene Woodcock and her family of Livermore Falls and Jolene Stefani and her family of Jay; three stepchildren, Linda Young and her family of Lewiston, Darleen Chapman and her family of Lewiston and Bobby Young and his family of West Paris; a sister, Darlene Moscini of California; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a brother, Frank; and sisters, Evelyn, Dorothy, Margaret and Mary.
The family would like to thank the staff at Rumford Hospital, Victorian Villa Nursing Home, and Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice, for all of their care and concern during the past several months.
