DURHAM — Following complaints of water running down Brickyard Hill Road causing icy conditions, Selectmen Norman Newell and Philip Gilikson inspected the site and determined that the recently completed ditching on the roadside was apparently not adequate.

Water, possibly from a spring, appeared to be coming up through the asphalt. It was decided a culvert needed to be installed and further ditching needed.

Board Chairman Wesley Bennett reported Copp Excavation would do the repairs immediately for $1,950.

Bennett conceded the cost was probably a little high as the contractor had to use hammer equipment to break through the frozen ground, and frozen material had to be removed from the site and new material brought in.

Selectmen also approved spending up to $1,500 from the municipal building account to have a third service window installed at the town office counter to improve customer access.
