STRONG — The MSAD 58 Adult and Community Education will offer a Digital Photography 101 course for interested community members. The five-week class will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. beginning Thursday, Jan. 28, at the Strong Elementary School art room. Steve Mitman will instruct the course. The cost is $60 each student.
The class is designed for the beginner and intermediate photographer. Students will begin with the basics of shooting, downloading, editing and printing photos using their own digital cameras.
Weekly classes will include instruction on a photographic or compositional technique, a shooting assignment, post-processing (editing) time and sharing/critique/feedback. The intent of the class is to give students the skills they need to shoot, process and use digital images on their own. The class is structured so that intermediate photographers will also benefit from the lessons and feedback.
Students will need a digital camera for the class. If students have access to a laptop computer they should also bring it to class. If necessary, students will have access to school computers during class time with the intent of learning the skills necessary to continue editing and processing at home.
Mitman has more than 35 years of experience in making photographic mistakes and learning from them. He has a BFA from Michigan State University and currently teaches art and photography to elementary and middle school students in MSAD 58. He regularly shoots photos for himself and the Original Irregular Newspaper in Kingfield.
