L. Madeline P. Hicks
1932 – 2010
WEST MINOT — L. Madeline P. Hicks of West Minot went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, Jan. 19.
She was born to the late Peter U. and Lempi K. Ojala Pulkkinen, March 2, 1932. She graduated from Edward Little in Auburn in 1950, and married Durward B. Hicks on Aug. 19, 1950. She had two children: son, Ronald A. Hicks and daughter, Susan J. Hicks Lawlor. She was a faithful employee of Goss/Handy True Value Hardware in Mechanic Falls for more than 50 years.
She was treasurer of the Minot Historical Society and was very proud of her Finnish heritage. She was a very faithful member of Faith Baptist Church in Auburn and the nursing home ministry. She was extremely proud of her family and especially her great-grandchildren. She loved to spend time with them as much as they loved to spend time with her. Her special name was “Gram-Cracker.” She was also known for her beautiful cakes. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She leaves behind her beloved daughter, Susan J. Lawlor and her husband, Arthur Jr., of Auburn; her sister, Ruth Gammon and husband, Calvin, of Livermore; her brother, Walter Pulkkinen and wife, Claire, of Auburn; six grandchildren, Kevin and Darren Hicks of Auburn, Tayna Lawlor Case and husband, Jonathan, of Turner, Tina Lawlor Page and husband, Jonathan, Katherine Lawlor Gray and husband, Wayne, and Charity Lawlor Cordell and husband, Jonathan, all of Jacksonville, Fla.; her beloved great-grandchildren, Seth Hicks, Alyssa, Alexander, Avery, Aidan and Anderson Case, Devon and Ethan Page, Taylor and Autumn Gray; also nieces, nephews, cousins, and an aunt, Ada Williams, who were very special to her.
She was predeceased by her husband, Durward; and her son, Ronald.
