RUMFORD — One of the biggest fundraisers for Hope Associates is set to kick off at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 7, at Horizons Unlimited on Swain Road.

More than 150 snowmobilers and participants in the organization that helps developmentally disabled adults are expected to take part in the 35th ride-in, Executive Director Joseph Sirois said.

“We’ve invited several snowmobile clubs,” he said. “The residents get rides and they really look forward to it.”

Josette Duguay, coordinator for the event, said some of the snowmobilers return year after year to provide rides for the participants.

“The participants know them,” she said. “They love it. Their faces light up and they sometimes go out for more than one ride.”

Snowmobilers will receive a home-cooked baked bean meal later in the day.

Funds are raised through the sale of raffle tickets for prizes and cash, Sirois said. The winning names will be drawn later in the afternoon on Feb. 7.

Chances may be purchased at the Lincoln Avenue Hope Associates building or from any of the organization’s board or staff members.

Sirois said the event raises nearly $10,000 for the organization’s programs.

Snowmobilers don’t have to preregister, just show up at 319 Swain Road at 1 p.m.

“We want snowmobilers to bring a good appetite and smiles,” Duguay said. “The program participants will provide the joy.”
