William J. Walton Jr.

1919 – 2010

LEWISTON — William J. “Bill” Walton Jr., 90, of Sunset View, Sabattus, died Friday, Jan. 29, at Central Maine Medical Center, after a very sudden illness.

Bill was born in Auburn on June 7, 1919, a son of the late William J. Walton Sr. and Ida (Webb) Walton. He was educated in local schools and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1937.

Bill proudly served his country in the U.S. Army.

He married the former Ann M. Howell on May 25, 1968.

He was the service manager of Lee Auto for many years.

Bill was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Church, most recently attending Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Sabattus. He was also a member of the Ancient Brothers Masonic Lodge, VFW Post 9459 in Lisbon, American Legion Post 135 in Sabattus, Jacques Cartier Club, and was very involved in the Kora Shriners in the Highlanders. Bill and his wife spent many hours volunteering their time in the screening clinic to help the kids that needed help from the Shriners.

Bill had his pilot’s license and loved to fly. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a very family-oriented guy and always looked forward to seeing his family.

He leaves his wife of 41 years, Ann M. Walton, of Sabattus; two daughters, Pauline Walton-Flath of California, and Doreen E. Manke and her husband, Bruce, of Derry, N.H.; a son, Paul M. Walton and his wife, Rosalie, of Cumberland; a stepdaughter, Veronica Radwicz of Illinois; four grandchildren, Dawn, Tamara, Jackie and Jody; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Patricia McCollough of Rumford, and Doris Albert and her husband, Anthony, of Lewiston; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Denison (Walton) Smrstick; four sisters, Mary Nichols, Carolyn Atwood, Veronica Maila and Constance Bacon; and two brothers, Frank and Leo Walton.
