The local grocers have recently been notified that to comply with the pure food law,s they must mark their eggs to show just what they are. Strictly fresh eggs will not have to be marked as it is taken for granted that if the buyer does not specify some other grade that he expects to get fresh eggs. However, if other than strictly fresh eggs are sent out, they must be marked so that the purchaser may know just what he is getting.

50 years ago, 1960

Union workers will demand higher wages this year from Lewiston’s three large textile firms.

About 300 delegates of the Textile Workers Union of America, including union representatives from the local plants of Bates Manufacturing Co., Continental Mills and Pepperell Manufacturing Co., voted in New York City Saturday to invoke wage re-opening clauses in the existing contracts.

A policy committee, of which Denis A. Blais of Lewiston is a member, will meet in the near future to draft specific wage demands.

“There’s nothing like this north of Boston,” promises the owner of Lewiston-Auburn’s newest nightspot.

Metra, a video dance club, will feature hit music videos on a big-screen TV, a spectacular light show and dancing, says owner Wayne Koss.

After about five weeks of renovations to the building at 767 Minot Ave., Auburn, Metra will open Friday from 8:30 p.m. to 1 a.m.
