For the past five years, Nina Kidwell, meal site coordinator for the Lisbon Falls SeniorsPlus, has watched the four ladies meet with regularity for lunch on Wednesday afternoon.

Some of them have known each other since they started working at the Worumbo Mill, almost 70 years ago.

“They are all so unique,” said Kidwell of Margaret Marchak, Shirley Thiriet, Jennie Janosco and Flora Morin. “I wonder how they do it. I mean, wow! They are all 91!”

Marchak and Thiriet still drive their cars to the grocery store and doctor’s appointments. Thiriet even picks up Janosco on some Wednesdays and the occasional Friday when they gather for lunch.

“We get along good; just like sisters!” beamed Morin.

And they like the company their lunches give them.

“We like to get out and see people,” Marchak said.

With their children grown, except Marchak who had none, the women are content with their lives.

“I’m happy with my stage in life,” Thiriet said. “I had a good life.”

“The years fly by,” reminisced Janosco. “My sister said, ‘How did we get so old?'”

“Gradually,” Thiriet said with a chuckle. “Little by little!”
