Richard M. Foss
1950-2010
LISBON — Richard M. Foss, 60, passed away Thursday evening, Feb. 11, at his home in Lisbon, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on Feb. 9, 1950, the son of Richard B. Foss and Gwendolyn (Greeley) Foss. He attended Lewiston schools and graduated from Lewiston High, Class of 1968.
He worked many jobs in his lifetime including paving, roofing, truck driving, Maine Electronics, UPS and most recently Bath Iron Works where he worked as a designer for the past 20 years.
He married Gloria “Pom” Gagnon on Aug. 25, 1979. He was a proud father of his two sons, John Colter and Joseph Walker. He enjoyed coaching his son’s football games and never missed a Lisbon High game, no matter where it was played. Rick loved riding his beloved Harley Davidson everywhere. Rick was a regular at the drag strip in the late 60s and early 70s, racing his 1969 Sportster. In 1977, he and friend Stan Lemlin, rode their motorcycles 1,142 miles in 24 hours; an unofficial world record. Over the years he accumulated hundreds of thousands of miles on several of his motorcycles.
He was a longtime fan of the Pittsburg Steelers through the good and bad years. He loved spending time with family and friends. He was always in a good mood and always up for a good laugh. Rick had a smile that could light up a room. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Pom Foss; his two sons, John “Colter” and Joseph “Walker” Foss of Lisbon; and his soon to be daughter-in-law, Kristi Burnham; a brother, Robin Foss and wife, Mary, of Ormond Beach Fla.; a sister, Diane “Missy” Foss of Charlotte, N.C.; an aunt, Elizabeth Foss from Florida and her two children, Judy Albert and Bud Foss; his mother-in-law, Helene Gagnon of Auburn; a sister-in-law, Lorraine “Cookie” Bernier and her husband, Don, of Lewiston; a niece, Michelle Bernier and her boyfriend, Josh Poisson, of Wales; nieces, Nicole “Punky” Bernier and her daughter, Shae, of Lewiston and Jennifer of Massachusetts; a brother-in-law, Gill Gagnon and his wife, Kim, of New Orleans, La., and their two children, Christopher and Whitney; a brother-in-law, Andy Gagnon and his wife, Annie, of Brunswick; his best friend, Ray Harps and his wife, Sue, of Lewiston; and many other loving friends.
He was predeceased by both of his parents; his maternal and paternal grandparents; and his uncle, Lynn Foss.
