Joyce A. Sherman

1954-2010

AUBURN — Joyce Ann Sherman, 55, resident of Northern Spring Drive in Poland, died Saturday, Feb. 20, at the Hospice House in Auburn following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born on Sept. 18, 1954, in Lewiston, a daughter of Hayward M. “Bud” and Barbara A. (Nason) Leighton. She was educated in Auburn schools and graduated from Edward Little High School with the Class of 1974.

Joyce enjoyed spending time relaxing in front of the television watching favorite shows, reading, doing word-search puzzles, but mostly enjoyed being home to take care of her family.

She had done some extensive travelling with her husband who was serving in the military. They had been stationed in Iceland and Virginia Beach, Va.

Joyce will be remembered for her strength and ability to care for her family. She was there for her son who endured six open heart surgeries to repair a life threatening cardiac defect. Her compassion and love will live on in those who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her father of Turner; her husband of 27 years, Randy E. Sherman, of Poland; four children, Shane E. Leighton, Barbara A. McKenna, Elizabeth F. Nelson and Dennis R. Daigle; a brother, Robert M. Leighton of Minot; several grandchildren; aunts and uncles; cousins; nieces and nephews; and many friends.

She was predeceased by her mother, Barbara A. Leighton.
