Several students from area schools sharpened their computer skills and got a taste of aviation when they participated in the Computer Flight Simulation program at Bates College. Students participating were Jace C. Harker of Winthrop, a student at Monmouth Academy; Christien R. Roux of Monmouth, Monmouth Academy; and Keir H. Larock of Litchfield, Libby-Tozier School. The weeklong program was directed by Drake R. Bradley, a professor of psychology at Bates and a licensed pilot. Participants were exposed to a variety of eight simulation programs for microcomputers and learned the principles of aircraft operation. Bradley pointed out that flight simulators help teach the basic spatial and mathematical skills that are prerequisites for success in science and mathematics.
