More than 50 corrections officials, security experts and students attended a symposium held recently at Central Maine Community College. Titled “Leadership in Maine’s Evolving Criminal Justice System,” the event was sponsored by the college’s criminal justice student organization and attracted corrections and security officials from across Maine. Among the presenters was Bob Hood, a former warden of the Supermax Federal Prison in Colorado. Other speakers included Gary LaPlante, chief of security, Maine Correctional Center; Neil MacLennan, Community Corrections; Jeff Morin, director, Charleston Correctional Facility; Mark Dion, Cumberland County Sheriff; Patricia Barnhart, warden, Maine State Prison; and Cathi Litcher, U.S. Bureau of Prisons.
