Donations of old muslin, linen or cotton will be gratefully received at the C.M.G. Hospital, for the supply on hand are being rapidly exhausted. The institution always has a need for material of this sort, but the demand has been unusually great of late because of the number of influenza patients.

50 years ago: 1968

Lewiston Memorial Armory will be jumping tonight during the 72nd annual Lewiston Firemen’s Ball. There will be a western theme and dancing will be from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Two bands will provide the music and a large turnout is anticipated. Pvt. Normand F. Metayer is general chairman of the dance committee.

25 years ago: 1993

Come spring the approximately 2,500 Bath Iron Works employees from the L-A area who cram onto Route 196 every morning and afternoon will be able to hop a bus to work. The Lewiston-Auburn Transportation Committee just received $120,000 in federal funding for the bus service, which will make three stops at park-and-ride lots in Auburn, Lewiston and Lisbon on its way to Bath. Two buses will run daily, one to Bath in the morning and the other leaving the small port town. In the evening, it will take BIW workers and other Bath employees back through the Route 106 corridor to stops at turnpike exits 12 and 13 as well as Tony’s Sunoco in Lisbon Falls. Though a fee has not been determined for riders, it will most likely come within the range currently charged by private vanpool operators — roughly $20 per week.
