Railroad tracks have been replaced where 11 Pan Am Railways train cars derailed on Thursday at the Crash Road intersection in Jay. The derailment ripped up rails and closed a portion of the road. The road reopened over the weekend with tar added to the crossing to make it a smoother ride over them for vehicles. Jay Town Manager Ruth Cushman said she spoke to the area railroad manager to make sure the tracks were fixed right and were embedded to avoid a recurrence of a derailment and safety hazards. Several cars on the train derailed in January 2009, two of them tipping over. The train delivers chemicals among other products to paper mills in Jay and Rumford. This time no railroad cars tipped over.
