LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) – A Republican state senator’s reference to Democratic U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer as “that Jew” has drawn a rebuke from the director of the Republican Jewish Coalition.

Coalition executive director Matthew Brooks said Friday that such language “has no place in politics.”

State Sen. Kim Hendren of Gravette said Thursday he regretted the way he referred to Schumer in a meeting of the Pulaski County Republican Committee last week.

Schumer’s office issued a two-word statement Thursday about Hendren’s comments: “Apology accepted.”

Brooks says Hendren’s remarks were “notable as an exception to the GOP’s tradition of inclusiveness.”

Hendren is the only announced candidate seeking the GOP’s nomination to challenge Democratic Sen. Blanche Lincoln.
