Thomas Harris jokes with Pat Long-Cressey after she offered to give him a free perm for cooking the spaghetti at The Root Cellar in Lewiston on Thursday. Long-Cressey, the owner of Gregory’s Hair Salon in Auburn, and her stylists closed up shop three hours early to cook a meal for 150 people who are having a rough time financially. She said her staff gave free hair cuts last year as a way to give back to the community and wanted to help again this year. “We are able to help, so why not?” Long-Cressey said. Harris, of Durham, is the cook at Vineyard Christian School in Lewiston and volunteered to cook the pasta and green beans. A community supper is served at 6 p.m. every Thursday at The Root Cellar on Birch Street.
