HEBRON — The Hebron Academy Middle School recently presented its 19th annual Science Fair. The 41 students set up their posters and models in the Androscoggin Theater of the Lepage Center for the Arts, and science teachers Grace Drown and Cynthia Reedy praised the work of each student to the enthusiastic audience.

Work on the science fair began back in February. Each student chose their own topic to explore — from the makeup of a hockey stick to gemmotherapy (herbal remedies from trees and shrubs). The research was largely done on their own, and many students created a 3-D model to go along with their topic. One student built two bridges, each of which could support his weight.

The students presented their findings in front of their peers as well as a panel of teachers from both the middle and upper school. Grades were based on their written paper, their poster/model and their presentation. The Science Fair in the theater was the culmination of all their work. Teacher Mrs. Drown said of the experience, “It’s amazing to see how the kids take ownership of their topics. They have all learned so much.”
