Liberty, a 2-year-old cocker spaniel, offers kisses to help raise money for Life’s Little Paws at Petco in Auburn on Sunday. Liberty’s owner Anita Loring has been volunteering with the nonprofit organization that is dedicated to rescuing American cocker spaniels for three years. Loring drove from her home in Oxford to Bangor during a January snowstorm to pick up Liberty, who was rescued from a backyard breeder. “She was covered with feces and urine … and scared to death,” said Loring. “I cried the whole way home,” Loring said. It was during a fundraiser one year ago that Loring decided to put Liberty to work. “She loves kids, and she was kissing, kissing, kissing,” said Loring. “I said ‘Libby, we have to get some money for those kisses,'” Loring said with a laugh.
