At the primary election on June 8, the voters of Poland will be presented with three questions concerning conservation of town-owned woodlands.
The Poland Conservation Commission has been working for two years to protect more than 200 acres of town-owned woodland to ensure that it will always be available for the residents of Poland to provide wildlife habitat, protect the watersheds of Tripp Lake and the Range ponds, and provide open space for outdoor recreation. A conservation easement is the only way to ensure that these lands are never converted to other use.
When we see how urban sprawl has changed former woodlands and farms to residential and commercial uses, here is an opportunity to ensure that the future residents of Poland have a few acres of woodland for their benefit and to protect the environment of their town.
We hope residents of Poland join us to vote “yes” on Questions 1, 2 and 3 on June 8.
