RUMFORD — Say Happy Father’s Day by telling Dad that prostate screening saves lives. Rumford Hospital is offering a free Prostate Screening Clinic on Sept. 13. Even though the screening is several months away, Father’s Day is a good time to remind your dad that you want him around for years to come. You can do that by giving him the number to call to register for the free clinic – 369-8097 daytime or 369-1142 evening for voice mail. Men who register in advance will receive a reminder call just before the clinic.

Dr. Albert Aniel will perform the prostate exams. In addition to the physical exam, each participant will have a urine test, blood pressure check and a prostate screening lab test (PSA). The results will be sent to Dad’s primary care provider and a list of primary care providers who are taking new patients will be available at the clinic.

The clinic targets men over 50, especially those who do not have a primary care provider. Men over 40 who experience difficult urination or who have a family history of prostate cancer should also sign up for the screening.

The prostate screening will be held in the Rumford Hospital Specialty Clinics from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 13. Men who make an appointment will be preregistered by phone so they can proceed directly to the Specialty Clinics on that day.
