I hope voters join me in support of Elaine Makas in the Democratic primary June 8 so that she can continue her good work as county commissioner.
She has worked above and beyond the call of duty for the Lewiston-Auburn area. Few have outperformed her. Among her many achievements, she helped bring the recent Democratic State Convention to Lewiston.
And who can forget when Casella Waste Systems wanted to use the Lewiston landfill as a dumping ground for its construction and demolition materials? If that deal had gone through, the life of the landfill would have been reduced from about 600 years to 30 years and the city could have been stuck with thousands of tons of potentially contaminated materials. She fought long and hard to prevent that from happening.
These are just a few of the reasons why I am voting for Elaine Makas on June 8.
