BOSTON — New England dairy company HP Hood recognized the winners of the Hood Good Sport Scholarship contest during a ceremony at Fenway Park on May 29.
Megan Beliveau of Lewiston was one of three student athletes from Maine to be awarded a $5,000 college scholarship. She will attend Acadia University in the fall.
Hood awarded a total of 18 scholarships — three in each New England state. Red Sox third baseman Mike Lowell was on hand to congratulate the winners as they accepted their awards and were inducted into the Hood Good Sport Hall of Fame. The student athletes watched the Red Sox take on the Kansas City Royals later in the day.
Thousands of student athletes from all across New England applied. The general public determined the 15 finalists from each state through online voting. The finalists were then interviewed by an independent panel of judges, and three winners from each state were chosen to receive a $5,000 college scholarship.
