Board: Turner Selectmen
Met: Monday night
ATV potpourri
Issue: Turner Timberland ATV Club President Matthew Jordan asked selectmen about storing materials at the town pit, using unrefined reclaim pavement to fix up trails, making a riding loop around the town’s gravel pit and getting permission for ATVs to drive longer distances on town roads.
The scoop: Selectmen responded with a mixed bag. They OK’d storing telephone poles that will go toward building a bridge and using the pavement.
Up next: A loop around the gravel pit would travel on town and private property. Selectmen decided the answer was no for now. but they would reconsider if abutting landowners gave permission. Abutting landowner approval is also needed before selectmen can consider letting ATVs travel farther on the roads by trail heads. A public hearing would also be needed.
Road repairs
Issue: Roads making the Androscoggin County Hazard Mitigation Plan list (and therefore, given priority for repair): Fish Street, Tidswell Road, Allen Road, County Road, Snell Hill Road, Mason Road, Conant Road, Young Road, East Hebron Road and Bennett Road.
The scoop: Now, the town wants to hear from you.
Up next: Have a road you’d like to add or one you think ought to move to the top of the list? Comments are welcome until June 15.
Timber
Issue: The town welcomed bids to clear cut an area up to 3 acres in the town pit.
The scoop: They got two.
Up next: Selectmen went with Gard Twitchell’s bid to pay Turner $28 per cord and $4 per ton for chips.
