LEWISTON – Antoinette M. (Toni) Bellemare Pelletier, 93, of Lewiston, formerly of Maison Marcotte, died Monday June 7, at St. Marguerite d’Youville Pavilion, where she had been residing for a year following a prolonged illness.

She was born in Thetford Mines, Canada, on May 29, 1917, to Joseph and Mary (Metivier) Bellemare and attended local schools while growing up in this community. She was one of 12 siblings, all who predeceased her. She worked most of her adult life for Bonneau’s Supermarket as a meat wrapper.

She married the love of her life, Maurice Pelletier, at St. Louis Church in Auburn, on Jan. 6, 1943. Together they raised one son, Raymond.

She most enjoyed her time traveling to Fla. during her retirement years. She settled back in Lewiston after the death of her husband, Maurice, who died Sept. 13, 1996. It was at this time that she made her home at Maison Marcotte, where she met many friends from her younger years and made many new friends as well.

Her favorite activities were playing bingo, cooking and spending time with friends and family. She especially enjoyed her time with her post office friends during their monthly get-togethers. She was a life member of St. Mary’s Hospital Patronesses, a member of the Marchand de Bonheur and the Holy Cross Sodality.

She is survived by her son, Raymond and daughter-in-law, Pauline (Laurendeau) Pelletier of Lewiston; three sisters-in-law, Marjorie Bellemare of Winthrop, Florence Daniels of Greene and Theresa Bellemare of Auburn. She leaves many nieces, nephews and her beloved godchildren.

She was predeceased by six brothers, Roger, Leo, Alcide, Henry, Paul and Jean; and five sisters, Blanche, Rosette, Marguerite, Rachel and Beatrice.

Special thanks to Dr. Seth Gordon, who watched over her with care and kindness, and the staff at d’Youville Pavilion, 4 East, who cared for her during this past year. All are remarkable and caring people.
