BRYANT POND — The University of Maine 4-H Camp and Learning Center at Bryant Pond will offer a Primitive Skills program study beginning Sunday, June 27. The program will be taught by several instructors at one of four campsites located on campus.
The course is designed to teach kids methods for self-reliance while in the woods. Course levels include primitive skills, for the younger ages; primitive living; and the final stage, primitive challenge. Each level is designed to be a little more challenging.
Campers will spend a majority of the time practicing primitive skills such as using a bow drill, making fire, water purification and building debris shelters out of found material. Campers will also learn how to track and identify animals by footprints and markings.
For more information on the program or one of the other programs offered by the Bryant Pond 4-H Camp and Learning Center, contact the main office by phone at 665-2068 or by e-mail at [email protected].
