HEBRON — Sixth-graders from the Hebron Academy Middle School recently participated in an Enviro-Walk for Animals.
Advisors Mary Anderson and Christine Hemmings brainstormed with the group to determine what the kids wanted to do to help a cause they care about. What came out of the session was a four-mile sponsored walk in the neighborhood community to pick up trash. The sponsor money was then donated to the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society in Auburn.
The group of 12 students and one adult started off on the four-mile trek. Three large bags of cans and bottles were collected along with about 10 bags of trash. Middle school history and English teacher Steve Middleton met the group halfway through the walk with water and popsicles and collected the filled bags in his car. The group also collected $302 to donate to the humane society.
