It was announced Monday that the opening day of the open air theater at Lake Grove will be next Monday. The management has made arrangements for productions of the usual kind with selections of both light opera and vaudeville.
The entertainment this year will be furnished by W. B. Gray of Portsmouth, N.H., a man experienced in the production of summer shows, and the railway promises to keep up their standard of good entertainment. The season has been somewhat delayed by rain and cold weather.
50 years ago, 1960
John White, prominent Auburn dairyman, who won the election yesterday as Auburn’s Ward One councilman, is expected to be sworn into office today.
White, who ran unopposed, replaces Donald E. Mank in the Ward One City Council seat. Mank won election last year but resigned in May when he accepted a position at Washington, D.C.
A Bates College graduate, White operates a 400-acre dairy farm in Auburn. He is clerk and treasurer of Whiteholm Farm.
25 years ago 1985
Former University of Maine and Edward Little baseball standout Rick Lashua has been signed to a contract in the (Class A) New York Penn League by the New York Yankees.
Lashua signed the contract Sunday night with the Oneonta, N.Y. Yankees, according to his father.
Lashua was playing for the Auburn Asas no more than two weeks ago, after having gone through a Florida instructional league.
