AUBURN — P. Clarence Gordon, 81, a lifelong resident of Livermore, died Sunday, June 13, at Clover Manor Nursing Home, where he had been a resident for the past year.
He was born Aug. 20, 1928, the son of Perley C. and Sarah Vaeilette (Beedy) Gordon. He went to school in Livermore, graduated from Leavitt Institute in Turner in 1946 and earned a degree from the University of Maine Orono in agriculture and horticulture. He served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954.
On June 10, 1955, in Canton, he married his wife of 55 years, Lois Gilbert Allanach. He began his employment with Oscar Turner Farms. In 1960, he went into self-employment, starting Gordon’s Eggs, raising chickens until 1978. He then went to work for the Town of Livermore, serving in several capacities; landfill attendant, animal control office, cemetery sexton, plumbing inspector, and solid waste board member. In 1993, the Town of Livermore dedicated theannual report in his honor. He started Gordon Excavating and in 1992 formed a partnership in the business with his son, Douglas. He and his brother-in-law, Charlie Tidswell, also ran a chicken barbeque business during the summer months. He was a member of the Livermore Methodist Church, 17-year school board member of the S.A.D. No. 36, also serving as chairman. He was a life member of the V.F.W and former member of the Masons of Canton, where he served as master of the lodge. He was an active leader in Boy Scouts for more than 35 years, including district level leader. He received the Silver Beaver Award, the highest award given by the State Scouting, and he was also given the Honorary Doctorate Award by Maine Scouting.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Gordon, of Livermore; his daughter, Diane Pelletier and her husband, Jack, of Livermore Falls; three sons, Jerry Allanach and his wife, Barbara, of Naperville, Ill., Bernard Gordon of Brunswick, and Douglas Gordon of Livermore and his companion, Barbara Baker; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his brother, Reuel Gordon; and his sister, Nellie Tidswell.
