COSTA RICA — Raylene K. Hawkins Scott, 58, daughter of Raymond and Arlene Hawkins of Auburn, passed away unexpectedly May 30, after living for many years with MS.
She was born in Lewiston on Dec. 7, 1951 and was baptized at Calvary Methodist Church. She attended school in Auburn, graduated from Edward Little School in 1969 and went on to nursing school at Whidden Memorial Hospital in Everett, Mass. and received her RN license in 1972.
On July 20, 1973 she married David C. Scott. They moved to Annapolis, Md., where she worked for Prince Georges Community College in Lanham, Md. Their first son, Christopher R. Scott was born Jan. 6, 1982.
Wanting to return to a quieter life, they moved to Durham, where second son, Matthew R. Scott was born March 18, 1986. While in Maine, she worked for Arrow Hart and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Maine as an occupational health nurse.
As the winters became more difficult and health challenges grew, Raylene and David moved to Costa Rica in 2007 to live. They taught English at the University of Costa Rica and to the younger children in elementary schools. She was deeply loved by all of them.
She was a very loving, compassionate person with an infectious laugh and a warm sense of humor, which allowed her to cultivate many deep and long-lasting friendships.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 37 years, David C. Scott; two sons, Christopher Scott of Portland and Matthew Scott of San Antonio, Texas; her mother, Arlene Hawkins of Auburn; her sister, Rebecca Hawkins of Jackson Hole, Wyo.; mother-in-law, Lois M. Scott of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was predeceased by her father, Raymond Hawkins.
