LEWISTON — City Councilors on Thursday will review financial claims from residents flooded during a heavy rainstorm a year ago.
The City Council will meet as an Appeals Board to review claims and decide if the city should pay for damage after storm sewers backed up during a July 2009 storm. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. in City Council chambers.
Backed-up storm sewers along White, Newman and Bardwell streets flooded a number of basements during the heavy rainstorm. Five residents filed claims with the Maine Municipal Association to pay for damage.
Of those five, only one was successful. The others were turned down. Councilors in February agreed to hear appeals from residents if their claims were turned down.
City Administrator Ed Barrett said three of those property owners are scheduled to present appeals at Thursday’s meeting.
