Franklin Chamber Scholarships Awarded

The Franklin County Chamber of Commerce recently awarded $1,000 scholarships to two deserving area residents, Amanda Richards of Strong and Jenna Hamlin, also of Strong. The scholarships are given based on community involvement, scholastics, and an essay. The Chamber scholarships are among the few scholarships available to “non-traditional” students as well as graduating seniors. This year, however, both scholarships went to seniors, both students graduated from Mt. Abram High School.

Amanda plans to attend the University of Maine Orono and take part in the Honors Program. Jenna plans on obtaining her Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Thomas College, Waterville. Both plan to use their education here in Franklin County.

Amanda was salutatorian of the class of 2010, senior class secretary, and active in band, honor society, girls book club, soccer, basketball, and tennis, while maintaining a 97.456 grade average.

Jenna was a member of the National Honor Society, and girls book club, as well as a volunteer with the American Red Cross blood drives. She works with children at day care centers and as a camp counselor. She is actively involved in various business organizations and is interested in culinary arts.

In making the presentations, David Robie of the Chamber’s Scholarship Committee mentioned the recipients’ involvement in, and demonstrated commitment to, Franklin County.
