LEWISTON — Maryrose “Abby” Smith, 75, a resident of Franklin Road, Jay, died early Thursday, June 24, at Marshwood Nursing Home surrounded by her family.

She was born April 17, 1935, in Jay, the daughter of George and Marie (Vaillancourt) Litalien. She attended school at St. Rose and Jay High School. On April 8, 1954, she married her husband of 50 years, Richard D. Smith at the United Methodist Church in Livermore Falls. He passed away March 25, 2005.

They made their home and raised their family in Jay. She worked at the school cafeteria in Jay. She was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay. She enjoyed her cat “Angel,” flowers, shopping, camping in Eustis, cooking and making homemade bread, but she especially loved the time spent with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by three daughters, Rosemary Ramsdell and her companion, Gary Timberlake, of Jay, Donna Daigle and her husband, Donald, of Hartford and Susan Sapiel and her husband, Wayne, of Jay; two sons, Roland Smith and his wife, Lorena, of Jay and Michael Smith and his fiancee, Candace, of East Livermore; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Bernadette Arsenault of Mexico, Yvonne Hurd of Brunswick and Theresa LaPlante of Peru; and three brothers, Roger Litalien of Topsham, Roland Litalien of Mexico and George Litalien Jr. of Peru.

She was predeceased by her son, Theodore Smith in 1994; two sisters, Irma Bilodeau and Joanne Fournier; and a brother, Donald Litalien.
