AUBURN — Allison E. Strout was born June 29, 1927, in New Gloucester, daughter of Daniel Cobb and Helen McCann Strout, died July 20, in Auburn.
She graduated from New Gloucester High School in 1945, in a class of five. She then attended Maine School of Commerce in Auburn, graduating in the class of 1948.
She then worked 12 years for Maine Bannana Corp., located in Lewiston. She also worked 24 years for Burnham & Morrell Co., South Paris, which changed hands two times while she worked there. Burnham & Morrell to the Under Wood Corp. and lastly A.L. Stewart Co. Her last employment was with her cousins at McCann Fabrication located in New Gloucester.
Allison retired in 1997, after 14 years of dedicted service. She was a 67-year member of Sabbathday Lake Grange of New Gloucester, where she served as master and treasurer.
Allison along with her mother were very instrumental in founding the original Poland Community Health Center in Poland and to this day a picture of them and other dignitaries hangs on the wall there.
She belongs to the New Gloucester Historical Society, New Gloucester alumni association and Poland Historical Society. Allison loves her family and she loves the town of New Gloucester and the people in it. If you happen to have lived in New Gloucester all your life and attended school here then you fit into Allison’s special catagory. Allison loved to talk about her school days at the Bald Hill one-room school and New Gloucester High School which explains her love and dedication for the alumni association.
Allison was a very strong and opinionated woman with a wonderful sense of humor. She was not afraid to voice her views on any topic of discussion. She loved gardening and watching the birds and animals around her home in New Gloucester.
She is survived by several first cousins, Richard McCann and Roger Tripp of New Gloucester, Willis Tripp and Wallace Tripp of Livermore Falls, Sylvia Pawlowski of South Portland, James May of Poland, Hubert May of Oxford, Janice Howard of Windham, Beverly Ryerson of Poland, Raymond Brackett of New Gloucester and Carlene Brown; a special aunt, Lucille McCann of New Gloucester; and many, many, many second cousins.
She was predeseased by her mother and father; aunts, Ret Brackett, Edna Tripp, Mary Ferris and Gert May; uncles, Fred and Leon McCann and Fred and Ed Strout; cousins, John and Bill McCann, Eddie and Freddy Strout, Barbera Bixby, Louise Greggory, Kathleen McCulloch and Bernard May.
Allison was a joy to be around and will be sadly missed by all her friends and relatives.
