AUBURN — Police arrested a Sabattus man Friday and charged him with burglary in connection with a string of recent motor vehicle burglaries.

Before his arrest, Devin Charest, 19, was interviewed at Androscoggin County Jail where he was being held on unrelated charges, police said in a written statement.

He became a suspect in the burglaries after investigators tracked down leads after a rash of more than a dozen motor vehicle burglaries on Thursday in the Northern Avenue Heights area of the city.

Charest has a recent history of motor vehicle burglary arrests in the surrounding area, police said. He was charged with a similar crime in Lewiston on July 14 and in Sabattus on July 15.

He remained in jail Friday on $5,000 cash bail.

Police recovered many items in connection with the case that remain unclaimed. Anyone who has experienced a motor vehicle burglary, but didn’t report it should contact police to file a report, police said.
