RANGELEY — With 190 points, Jerry Gingras of Bear Country Power Sports in Errol, N.H., claimed the first overall award at the Rangeley Lakes Region Logging Museum’s woodsmen’s competition, held on July 24 at the museum’s 30th anniversary Logging Festival.

Competing both with and against his wife Katy Gingras, Jerry Gingras took home a chain saw as his award. Second in the overall competition was Josh Haley of Rangeley Plantation with 160 points; he received a cash award. Third in the overall competition with 100 points each were Joel Burdin of Sangerville, Jim Carignan of Rangeley and Jacob Oakes of Buxton, who also won cash awards.

To start the competition, Jerry Gingras and Jim Burak demonstrated speed chopping. Judges were John Chandonnet, Kirsten Frazier, Michael Frazier, Lenita Richard, Ron Robichaud, Bob Schriever, as well as members of the Northern Forest Canoe Trail Association. Joshua and David Frazier served as judge’s helpers. The competition was organized by Rodney Richard Jr. and Lenita Richard of Pownal.

Winners of individual events that counted for the overall award were as follows:

Crosscut saw: first, Jerry Gingras and Katy Gingras, 6:54 seconds, 50 points; second, Joel Burdin and Rodney Richard Jr., 8:36, 40; third, Zac Kirk and Jacob Oakes, 9:66, 30; fourth, Jim Carignan and Josh Haley, 10:30, 20; fifth, Joe Caouette and Jim Burak, 11:85, 10.

Pulp piling: first, Josh Haley, 46:89 seconds, 50 points; second, Dave Porter, 50:63, 40; third, Pat Maloney, 51:97, 30; fourth, Jim Burak, 53:46, 20; fifth, Jim Carignan, 55:37, 10.

Dot split: first, Jim Carignan, 50 points; second, Josh Haley, 40; third, Jacob Oakes, 30; fourth, Shawn McCarty, 20; fifth, Kent LaPage, 10.

Stock chainsaw: first, Josh Haley, 25:81 seconds, 50 points; second, Jerry Gingras, 26, 40; third, Joel Burdin, 26:31, 30; fourth, Jim Carignan, 27:26, 20; fifth, Richard Padham, 28, 10.

Axe toss: first, Jerry Gingras, 50 points; second, Pat Maloney, 40; third, Zac Kirk, 30; fourth, Jim Burak, 20; fifth, Katy Gingras, 10.

Modified chainsaw: first, Katy Gingras, 4:55 seconds, 50 points; second, Jimmy Haley, 5:95, 40; third, Jerry Gingras, 8:15, 30.
