USM Recognizes Scholarship Students

PORTLAND — The University of Southern Maine has announced the names of students who were awarded scholarships for 2010-11 academic year. Local recipients include:

Angela N. Burke of New Gloucester, an accounting student, was awarded the Press for Higher Education Scholarship and inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi and the Golden Key Honor Society. Burke, a 2001 Livermore Falls High School graduate, is the daughter of Michael and Michelle Burke of Livermore.

Heidi Marie DeHaan of Lewiston, a mathematics student, was inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. DeHaan, a 2007 graduate of St. Dominic Regional High School is the daughter of Dirk and Tina DeHaan of Lewiston.

Nathan Garnett of Lisbon Falls, a mathematics student, was awarded the Helen D. and Waldeck W. Mainville Jr. Scholarship and the Robert Noyce Scholarship. Garnett, a 2004 Lisbon High School graduate also attended the University of Maine and is the son of Greg Garnett of Lisbon and Ann Wilson of Sabattus. He resides in Freeport with his wife Elaine.

Hannah S. Schwenk-Sandau of Freeport, a women and gender studies major and a sociology major, was awarded the Women and Gender Studies Program Academic Scholarship Award. Schwenk-Sandau a 2006 graduate of Freeport High School is the daughter of Catherine E. Schwenk of Freeport and Stephen S. Sandau of Brunswick.

Jenna Wise of Lewiston, a business student, was inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. Wise, a 2003 Lewiston High School graduate, attended Central Maine Community College and the University of Maine at Orono. She is the daughter of Marianne Wise of Lewiston and Mike D. Wise of Kissimmee, Fla.
