Bridge play

LEWISTON — The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club met on July 27 at the Multi-Purpose Center. Flight A winners were: first, David Lock and Fred Letourneau; second, Mary Anne Trafton and Kathleen Burden; third, Linda Leotsakos and Janet Arey; fourth, Ron and Connie Reynolds; fifth, Nancy Farmer and Lucille Theriault.

Winners in Flight B were: first, Mary Anne Trafton and Kathleen Burden; tied at second, Richard Balian and Bailey Geeslin with Donna Bartlett and Eleanor Caron. Flight C winners were: first, Mary Anne Trafton and Kathleen Burden; second, Donna Bartlett and Eleanor Caron. Another game will be played at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3.

The club also met on July 28 at Schooner Estates in Auburn. Winners were: first, John Hackett and Leslie Buzzell; second, Fred Letourneau and David Lock; third, Marta Clements and Claire Lyons. Another game will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 4, at Schooner Estates. A partner is guaranteed at all bridge games in the local area. Grange sale

MINOT — The West Minot Grange will hold the fourth annual yard sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14. Tables can be rented for $10. In the past, there has been a full rental of 13 tables inside and several outside, with a variety of items.

There will be homemade beans, coleslaw, biscuits and doughnuts for sale as well as several Longerberger consultants reducing their inventories with a cash and carry sale.

Money management

AUBURN — The Auburn Public Library will host “Personal Money Management 101” from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10, in the Androscoggin Community Room.

Meagan Barrett, assistant manager for TD Bank at Shaw’s, will present the introduction to the basics of personal banking, including balancing a checkbook, making a household budget and understanding the dos and don’ts of credit. Space is limited and advance registration is required for the free program. To register, call the library’s reference desk at 333-6640, ext. 4.

Scholarship awarded

AUGUSTA — The Maine Grocers Association and the Maine Beverage Company have announced the 2010 Maine Grocers Association Scholarship recipients.

Harrison Wiegman of Leeds, attending the University of Maine at Orono, has received one of the five $1,000 scholarships.

“The Maine Grocers Association’s scholarship program is a core program for our members. Their contributions coupled with that of the Maine Beverage Company’s outstanding generosity enable us to grant five to these deserving students,” said MGA board president Troy Plummer, Plummer’s Supermarket in Buxton.
