RANGELEY — The sounds of the beach echoed over the lake on July 26, as the legendary Beach Boys brought their unique brand to the stage to benefit the Rangeley Region Health and Wellness Partnership.
“It was an amazing day and evening for the (Rangeley) region,” said Beth Brunswick, president of the RRHWP board of directors. “With the setting overlooking the lake and the great music it was perfect. The Beach Boys really loved it. They were taken aback by the beauty and how welcoming everyone was. I hope this refreshes people’s memories on how special a place Rangeley is.”
The concert drew more than 2,000 people to the Wellness Pavilion on Dallas Hill Road, with a large number of attendees on their feet through most of the show dancing to the music for over two hours.
“I think people didn’t know what to expect and they (the Beach Boys) were incredible as entertainers. I think it’s really something special when the band was here for only thirty-six hours and they fall in love with this place. (Beach Boys member) Bruce Johnson said his night at the Rangeley Inn was one of the best nights of sleep he’d had in years,” said Brunswick.
The concert would not have been half the success it was without the core of local residents that donated their time to serve as concert staff. “All of our volunteers were outstanding and very organized. The Playground Committee did a superb job handling parking and the cleanup afterward. People helped if something needed to be done. Everyone is this town rallied to make this concert possible,” said Brunswick
Prior to the concert the annual Adirondack chair fundraiser, featuring chairs decorated or created by local artists Pam Nobbs, Heidi Sorensen, Sonja Johnson, Nancy Teel and Ashley Gray, were auctioned off by guest auctioneer Larry Koob.
