AUBURN – Charles Raymond Burns passed away surrounded by his family at Central Maine Medical Center, Jan. 7, 2019. He was born in Lewiston, June 6, 1949, to Charles and Florence (Sawyer) Burns. Charlie attended Auburn schools and graduated from Edward Little High School in 1967. Following graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force serving in the Vietnam War as a sergeant. While in the Air Force he attended college in California. After, his time in the military he continued to be very involved in the local VFW chapter 1603, and, the American Legion post’s 153 and 31. He worked with the L/A Council to initiate the Lewiston Veterans Memorial Park. He went on to work at Bath Iron Works in 1973 completing 44 years working in the repair and paint divisions. Charlie served as a Union Shop Stewart in local 6 BIW.

Charlie was an avid sports fan following the Red Sox, Patriots and NASCAR Races. He attended many races in New Hampshire camping with family and friends for many years. Charlie loved campfires and spent hours sitting around them with family and friends. He loved animals, adopting and caring for many throughout his life, from the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society. Charlie had many friends in the local clubs he was a member of.

Charlie was predeceased by his parents; and brothers, William, Richard, Robert; and sisters, Marion Davis and husband, Raymond, Beverly Ames and husband, Rudy, brothers-in-law Lucien Dulac and John Capen.

He is survived by the love of his life, Donna and family. Sisters Joyce Capen, Evelyn Dulac, Sandra Leavitt and husband, Gard, Elaine Levesque and husband, Raymond; sisters-in-law, Louann Burns and Mary Burns. Being known as Uncle Charlie he also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019, from 4-7 p.m., at Fortin/Auburn, 217 Turner St., Auburn, Maine. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 13, 2019, at Fortin/Auburn.

The family would like to thank Central Maine Medical Center ICU team for their care and support throughout Charlie’s illnesses.
