FLINT, Texas – Mr. Edward G. Cooper, 80, of Turner, Maine, and Flint, Texas, passed away Thursday evening, Jan. 17 at East Texas Hospice with family at his side. He was born in Auburn on April 26, 1938, the son of Robert M. and May E. Williams Cooper. He was educated in local schools and remained a lifelong resident of this community.  Ed was a Military Veteran having served his country in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne until his Honorable Discharge.

On Aug. 2, 1958, he married the former Lillian Fisher and together they settled in Auburn to raise their family. Lillian passed away in 1999. Ed worked many years as a long-distance truck driver and later worked in law enforcement  at Androscoggin County and Texas Department of Criminal Justice until his retirement. Among his favorite enjoyments were motorcycling, snowmobiling and drives from Maine to Texas and back. He was a loving, devoted and hard-working husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed.

Ed leaves behind his four children, Edward Cooper Jr., of Lewiston, Maine, Scott Cooper and wife, Michelle, of Flint, Texas; Butch Cooper and wife, Terri, of Turner, Maine, and Alice Cooper of Turner, Maine; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one sister, Christina Gauthier of Dayton, Ohio; and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Lillian; and two brothers, Al and Andy.

Visiting hours will take place Saturday, 6-8 p.m., at The Fortin Group Funeral Home in Auburn. A graveside service with military funeral honors will take place in the spring at Gracelawn Memorial Park. A service of The Fortin Group, 217 Turner St., Auburn.
