AUBURN — The Auburn Public Library, 49 Spring St., has released its schedule of teen events for February.

Maine Job Corps — Teens and new adults ages 16-24. Maine Job Corps offers an opportunity to take part in an experience that provides help to understand the skills needed to succeed in today’s job market. This program is free. Contact Cathie Gavett of the Maine Job Corps at 207-458-5369 to find out more about this program and who is eligible. She will then arrange a mutually convenient time to meet at the library.

Outright LA Movie Series — Showing of the film,”The Birdcage,” Saturday, Feb. 2, 1 to 3 p.m., Androscoggin Community Room. APL has partnered with Outright LA to offer a movie series for teens and new adults, ages 14-21. The first movie in this series is “The Birdcage,” starring Robin Williams and Nathan Lane. It is rated R due to moderate profanity. Teens under age 17 must either be accompanied by a parent or guardian or bring a copy of the APL Movie Permission Slip, signed by a parent or guardian, to the viewing. Permission slips are available at the Reference Desk.

Great Stories Club — “Empathy – The Cost of Switching Sides,” Mondays, Feb. 4 and 11, 4:30 to 6 p.m., Teen Space. The Great Stories Club continues with a discussion of our final book in this series, “March, Book 3” on Feb. 4, and a final discussion on the topic of empathy on Feb. 11. The next series, titled “What Makes a Hero? Self, Society and Rising to the Occasion” begins in March. Books to be read include: “Black Panther: A Nation Under Our Feet, Book One” by Ta-Nehisi Coates & Brian Stelfreeze; “Maus II: A Survivor’s Tale: And Here My Troubles Began” by Art Spiegelman; “Binti” by Nnedi Okorafor; and “Buck: A Memoir” by M.K. Homework Help for Teens — Wednesday, Feb. 6, 1 to 2:30 p.m., Teen Space. Join in at the Teen Space on select Wednesdays for Homework Help. Whether teens need a place to do group work, need to get organized or need someone to assist them in a subject which is giving them trouble, help is here. The tutor is a professor at Bates College whose background is science but who has taught other subjects, as well. This program is for teens in grades seven to 12 and will include a snack.

Teen Library Advisory board meeting — Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., Teen Space. The Teen Library Advisory Board is a joint venture between the APL and the library at Edward Little High School. Its mission is to create more awareness of and collaboration between both libraries, promoting everything the libraries offer to the teens in the community. The board meets bi-weekly, alternating meetings between the APL and ELHS. Teens interested in joining should be between the ages of 12 and 18, interested in community involvement and a lover of the library. Teens do not have to be students at ELHS to participate in the board. For more information contact either Ms. McCurdy at ELHS or Donna at APL.

Teen Life Skills: Healthy Relationships — Thursdays, Feb. 7, 14, 21 and 28, 3:15 to 4:15 p.m., Teen Space. February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. In recognition of this annual event, schools and teen centers all over the country are participating in special activities. Jennifer from Safe Voices and/or Heather from the Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Services will be at APL every week during the month for games and/or activities centered around dating and healthy relationships. There will be snacks, candy and prizes. Just for teens, ages 12-18.

Dungeons & Dragons — Thursdays, Feb. 7, 14 and 28, 2:30 to 5:30 p.m., Teen Space. Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) is an adventure that is created by the Dungeon Master (DM) and the players. Players become characters of their own design, carefully crafted to be the way they want. The adventurers are in a desolate burnt wasteland with clouds of ash. There are several towns of survivors living underground in tight-knit communities. With a world to both discover and save they head forth into the wastelands. This D&D group is lead by ELHS student, Mike Hynes. Although scheduled until 5:30, the meeting may go on beyond that time. All are welcome.

Tech Tuesdays: iMovie Workshop — Tuesday, Feb. 12, 3 to 4 p.m., CREATE! Media Lab. Join in on selected Tuesdays to learn what can be done in the Media Lab. During this workshop, attendees can learn the basics of iMovie, including how to upload and edit a movie. This program is for teens and adults and, due to the size of the room, space is limited. The CREATE! Media Lab is made possible by grants from Procter & Gamble and Best Buy and houses three 27″ iMac desktop computers. The lab is open to Auburn Public Library and Lewiston Public Library cardholders ages 12 and older. For more information about the lab and its policies, visit their website or give APL a call.

Tweens in the Teen Space — Wednesdays, Feb. 13 and 27, 1 to 3 p.m., Teen Space. Tweens who are in sixth grade are invited to join in at the Teen Space on the second floor on half-day Wednesdays. Crafts or board games will be available or stop by to hang out or get a head start on homework.

Gaming Hour — Wednesdays, Feb. 13 and 27, 4 to 5 p.m., Androscoggin Community Room. There will be Xbox and Wii, and a small collection of games. Teens are welcome to bring their favorites, but only those rated T and E. Just for teens, ages 12-18.

Teens! Matinee Movie: Teen Choice (Romance) — Tuesday, Feb. 19, 3 to 5 p.m., Androscoggin Community Room. February’s feature will be romance, with several possibilities, including “Clueless,” “10 Things I Hate About You” or “The Notebook.” Because these movies are rated PG-13, this program is for teens ages 13-18. Snacks will be provided.

Teen DIY: Mug Cakes — Wednesday, Feb. 20, 4 to 5 p.m., Androscoggin Community Room. Bring a mug or some will be available. Teens can come by the library prior to Feb. 20 and decorate their own mug. So that there will be enough supplies, registration for this program is required. Either visit the Events page of the APL website or give them a call. This program is just for teens, ages 12-18.

APL Farmer’s Market — Friday, Feb. 22 , 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The annual Indoor Farmer’s and Homestead Goods Market features live music, a special children’s program, lots of vendors and some surprise barnyard guests. Vendors will offer homegrown and homemade foods and treats, plus homestead crafts such as pottery and glass works.

The Farmer’s Market is free to the public.
