FRYEBURG — A 58-year-old man remained at the Oxford County Jail on Tuesday afternoon on charges that he shot at a 17-year-old boy during a dispute.

James R. Bickford of Pine Knoll Road in Brownfield was charged with criminal threatening and reckless conduct. His bail was set at $5,000 cash or $20,000 worth of real estate Monday in Lewiston District Court. He has conditions that he not possess dangerous weapons, submit to random searches for them, and have no contact with the boy.

Officer Thomas Hundley of the Fryeburg Police Department said Robert Dalton Parker told police Friday evening that Bickford is his mother’s boyfriend. He gave officers a shell casing from a .38-caliber weapon when they arrived at the Intervale Drive residence.

Parker said he got into an argument with Bickford over his driving and Bickford and his mother removing the plates from his vehicle. Parker said he slammed Bickford’s head into the car’s hood after Bickford shoved him, and that Bickford then threatened to shoot him.

Parker said he got a baseball bat because he was afraid Bickford would attack him, and that Bickford took out a handgun. Parker said Bickford fired a shot near his head as he was walking away and left the residence in his van.

Fryeburg officers Dale Stout and Mark Tibbetts and Sgt. Matthew Baker of the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the case.

Bickford was arrested Saturday evening on Route 93 in Lovell, according to arrest records.
