LEWISTON — The Center for Wisdom’s Women, a drop-in center, has announced its September schedule with the addition of two new programs.
An introductory t’ai chi class will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 16. It will be led by Betsey Foster from T’ai Chi and Qui Gong for All. T’ai chi, as it is practiced in the west today, can be thought of as a moving form of yoga and meditation combined. Used as a healing art, one focus of Foster’s teaching is on the health benefits of t’ai chi, especially in working with people who have chronic health issues and disabilities.
Shanna Foster from Visible Community’s Neighborhood Housing League will be at the center at 10 a.m. every Monday for consultation about tenant issues, including guidance on what to do about bed bugs.
The monthly cooking class with Denise Dill from St. Mary’s Nutrition Center will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15. WMCA will host the monthly clinic for women’s reproductive health at the center on the morning of the Monday, Sept. 27.
The Y.A.N.A. (You Are Not Alone) group will continue at 1 p.m. every other Thursday. Wisdom Circle will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14 and Wednesday, Sept. 29. It is a meditative group that works on stress release and is led by Sarah Wood from the Sexual Assault Crisis Center. The Strong Women program will continue at 1 p.m. Mondays, Sept. 13 and 27. Participants in the group will listen and respond to a story of a strong woman.
Other regular activities include a writing workshop, various crafts, scrapbooking, painting and card making. The full program schedule for September is posted on the center’s website at www.wisdomswomen.org. All programs at the center are free, no registration required.
