AUBURN — Mary Elizabeth Grover Lovejoy, 90, of Farmington, died early Saturday, Aug. 28, at the Hospice House.

She was born in Portland, Aug. 27, 1920, the daughter of Harold and Marguerite (Roberts) Grover. Her father died when she was a baby and Frank and Edith Grover, Harold’s parents, took both Marguerite and Mary in to live with them in North Berwick.

She attended North Berwick schools and graduated in 1939. Mary attended the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. As a student, she was the choral director at the Kathleen Dill School and Orchestra Leader at Simmons College. She taught K-12 in Peterboro, N.H., upon her graduation from college.

In 1944, she married her former husband, Robert Lovejoy. He died in 2008.

For 24 years, she was a music teacher in SAD 9. She especially enjoyed taking students to the annual solo competition at Colby College and then to the state competition.

She was the choir director at the Henderson Memorial Baptist Church for 36 years. She also served as the financial secretary and was on the flower committee.

Mary served on the board of the Nordica Association and was a trustee at 80 Main St., now The Pierce House.

She enjoyed gardening, antiques, postcards and her pets. Her greatest pleasure in life was time spent with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, John Lovejoy of Farmington and Marianne Drosdik and her husband, Steve, of Farmington; five grandchildren, Alyssa Baig and her husband, Ghazanfer, of Somerville, Mass., Kristina Guillaume and her husband, Jerry, of Seabrook, N.H., Matthew Drosdik and his wife, Michelle, of Portland, Kimberly Drosdik and her companion, Matthew Pavlis, of Portland and Jill Drosdik of Portland; and three great-grandchildren, Samir Baig, Harper Drosdik and Aydeen Baig.
