WILTON — M. Chrystal Welch, 93, of Magrath Road, Wilton, died Sunday, Aug. 29, at her home.
She was born in Temple on Nov. 3, 1915, a daughter of William B. and Martha (Packard) Frost. She received her education in Wilton schools and graduated from Wilton Academy. She later attended Farmington Normal School. On Feb. 27, 1937, she married Alton Welch. He died June 7, 2009.
She worked at GH Bass and Co. in Wilton for 27 years, retiring in 1977. She was a member of Franklin Grange, the Wiltona Club, Wilton Historical Society and the First Congregational Church of Wilton. She was family oriented, enjoyed canning, gardening, crafts, camping, fishing and snowmobiling. She and her late husband were also very active in the Wilton Senior Citizens, where they were instrumental in organizing many bus tours around the country.
She is survived by her sons, Herschel Welch and his wife, Lauristine, of North Jay, and Hartley Welch and his wife, Tena, of Raymond; sister-in-laws, Thelma Frost of Wilton and Blandine Frost of Norridgewock; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren; at the time of her death she was also survived by a sister, Roaine Hatch, of Chesterville, who died two days after Chrystal, on Aug. 31.
She was predeceased by her husband; a son, Herman; and two brothers, Cecil and Royce Frost.
