Farming alternative

LOVELL — The Greater Lovell Land Trust will host an informational meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, at the Charlotte Hobbs Memorial Library. Anyone who owns farmland that is currently unproductive is invited to learn ways to restore its value without having to farm the land themselves by letting someone else do it.

Barbara Murphy, extension educator in the Oxford County Extension Office, will address the farming alternative, with a presentation titled “The Benefits and Challenges to Letting Others Farm Your Land.” Murphy will describe the several concerns a landowner should have in mind while making a decision. All are welcome.

Public breakfast

HARRISON — A public breakfast will be held from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 12, at the VFW Post 9328, Waterford Road, Route 35. The menu will include scrambled eggs, French toast, pancakes, sausage, bacon, biscuits and gravy, fruit, sweet breads, orange juice, coffee and tea. Donations will be appreciated.

NAPLES — The Lake Region Project Graduation fundraising efforts are underway. Coffee, specially roasted for the group by Swift River Coffee Roasters in Raymond, is available at the Umbrella Factory Supermarket on Roosevelt Trail, for $10.

Raffle tickets are also for sale for the final Fenway match up between the Red Sox and the Yankees. The winner will get eight tickets to the Oct. 3 game with a limousine ride from Portland to Fenway. Tickets are $10 each or three for $20 and are available from Lake Region Project Graduation Committee members. The drawing will be Sept. 24.

Tent meeting

STONEHAM — The Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War 1861-1865, Hannah F. Richardson Tent 19, met Aug. 25 at the Community Room. There were six members present and two prospective members. Elaine Lagueux was appointed treasurer pro tem and Wanda Ryerson was appointed senior vice president pro tem.

A gift certificate was presented to Dorothy Morencey as a “thinking of you” gesture after her husband’s passing and her recent surgery. The next meeting will be Wednesday, Sept. 29, tentatively at the same location.

Legion dance

LOCKE MILLS — A supper and dance will be held from 5 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, at the American Legion Hall. Music will be by the Boulder Ridge Orchestra, which includes Betty and Norm Decoteau, Linwood Cash and Wayne Cox. Doors will open at 4 p.m. The supper will be chicken pie and all the fixings.

Cost is $10 for adults and $3 for children.
