It appears that the problems on Riverside Drive are not with the road. I would say that the Maine DOT has made some very bad decisions.

I believe that a proper investigation of the issues, followed by a contract to install sheet piles, would have avoided a huge waste of taxpayer funds. The project went to bid on Sept. 2, 2009, and should have been completed in 2009.

What we need now is an independent civil engineer working with a geotechnical engineer to properly design the rebuilding of a section of road that has been there for more than 200 years.

Here it is, a year after the bid, and we still have a major problem without a road.

Get going, Maine, and have that road built and open before 2011.

At the same time, our local state representatives should demand an independent investigation to reveal who is at fault.

I believe that one or more persons at the Maine DOT should be looking for a new job.
